If you ever plan on attending a fashion show in which male models walk down the runway in their underwear, be aware that interaction from the audience is inevitable. When it comes to fashion shows, there is totally a double standard, but for once it’s in the favor of the ladies. For whatever reason, at fashion shows women become completely inappropriate and either revert back to their 6th grade self and find themselves giggling and making inappropriate comments to their gal pals, OR they turn into a frisky old lady who starts hooting and hollering like she’s at a bachelorette party. Whereas, women can strut down the runway with their nipples completely exposed, and everyone pretends not to notice. At Megan Summerville’s lingerie show on Thursday night, the distinction was clear, as both men and women walked down the runway in her intimate designs.
Megan Summerville was one of the first local Austin designer’s I ever took note of when I first started blogging about fashion in Austin, and years later she has maintained the same amount of respect and interest from me. Last night was the first night I had ever seen Megan design menswear, so that was a fun change of scenery that I can’t complain about. Megan told me she hadn’t shown menswear in quite some time, but she wanted to show her most popular men’s cut and also play with some hand painting and new fabric. The result? Fun and playful short boxer briefs, some which had what I am dubbing an”X marks the spot” that allowed the eyes of onlookers to be drawn straight to the goods.
The women walked the runway in standard Megan Summerville vintage inspired lingerie which included several fun retro high waisted panties in beautiful lace fabrics. But, I was happy to see her mix in some more modern and extra spicy pieces to the mix, like a killer high cut black sheer bodysuit. Megan’s lingerie was definitely the highlight of the Thursday night runway shows.
