What started off as a small online boutique, quickly garnered a small cult following and has now become one of the biggest online shopping destinations for women and girls looking for affordable, trendy, and unique fashion from a curated collection of brands such as UNIF, Lazy Oaf, and Cheap Monday. A couple of Christmases ago my mom asked me what I wanted and I sent her a link to a few items I had picked out from a site called “Nasty Gal.” (And yes, my mom was a little perplexed and weirded out by the name of the website.) “That dress is really cute Joanna, but I think they need a better name.”
Years later, the company now has their own design label and has just launched their most recent collection for Fall 2013. In true Nasty Gal fashion, the collection includes sexy yet stylish, playful yet edgy clothing in the form of leather bustiers, sheer vinyl crop tops, and some not-so-average looking motorcycle jackets. The new collection gives praise to the belly button, cleavage, and even the sideboob. Nothing too out of the ordinary for Nasty Gal.
While I do still purchase from Nasty Gal every now and then, I don’t think of myself as the typical Nasty Gal buyer. I can’t remember the last time I purchased something that was super form fitting. Honestly, purposefully and overtly sexual clothing usually make me uncomfortable, and I actually feel much sexier in a cotton babydoll dress vs. a leather mini. The piece I find myself most drawn too in the newest Nasty Gal collection is of course the one dress from the bunch that looks like it could be maternity wear.
