Olive Vintage: Another Stylish Addition to Domy Books

Amongst the interesting books and creative art that make up Domy Books on the east side of Austin, now lives another stylish addition to this artistic collection.  Busy Being is no longer the only “shop within a shop” inside of Domy Books.  Olive Vintage has been inside of Domy for just 3 months now, but is already making a stylish impression on the book store/ art gallery.

Situated right next to another new vendor, Paper Party, Olive Vintage contains a small carefully curated mix of old, new, womens, and mens fashion.  Olive Vintage owner Laura Uhlir says growing up in the small east Texas town of Longview is where she got her interest in fashion.  In a town with not a whole lot to do, Laura says thrift shopping became her hobby.  After moving to Austin for school, Laura has since worked in retail and as the events coordinator for the Blanton museum.  With Olive Vintage, Laura now gets to use her artistic eye and thrifting skills for her own store.

One of the things that makes these stores within Domy so special, is that because they are located inside a gallery, every piece begins to seem less like a product and more like art.  It also helps that Laura picks unique and creative designers from around the world to feature in the store.  Fortune is one of several interesting jewelry lines you can find inside Olive. Made in Brooklyn, the pieces are made from refurbished vintage jewelry and turned into something new and modern.  The Pillars of Creation silk scarves which featured Hubble telescope images of nebulas were among my favorite items in the store.
