Austin Fashion Week kicks off tonight with a runway show featuring designs from the Austin Fashion Week Mashup Teams plus collections from Betsey Johnson and MotorClothes by Harley Davidson. Along with live music from LC Rocks, there will be plenty of cocktails and treats to go around. I’m excited!
But while the Kick Off event tonight requires a ticket, there are plenty of awesome showcase events coming up this week that will be FREE and open to the public. Here are some of the free events that I am most looking forward to! Most will have free cocktails, some treats, entertainment, but all will definitely have fashion:
Monday August 22:
Blo Blow Dry Bar and Etiquette Vintage Present a Blo-out celebration of hair and vintage design–Blo Salon’s events are always fun! Plus DJ El John of Thievery Corporation will be spinning
Maison d’Etoile and Megan Summerville present: Lingerie Cabaret -Amazing wigs, amazing lingerie, live performances, all at the coolest store on the East Side
Waterstone Aesthetics presents Mode Kei – Japanese inspired hair and makeup show benefitting the victims of the tsunami (ok it’s not technically free, tickets are $5 but it’s only $5 and it’s going to a great cause.) Put on by the same group last year that had this amazing show.
Tuesday August 23:
La Belle Vie – French Carnival inspired with carnival games, adult Italian ices, a balloon artist, and a photo booth! I received a hand delivered invitation to this party y’all.
Wednesday August 24:
Doo Wop Fashion Bash – it’s 50s themed! And there will be burgers from Terra Burger mmm
Thursday August 25:
A Night of Indulgence, hosted by Etcetera Etc. boutique and featuring Sixchel by Dina Chavez – This is a newly opened boutique that I have yet to visit so I’m excited to check it out as well as the new collection by Austin based designer Dina Chavez
Friday August 26:
Fascinator Friday presents Little Black Hats & Little Black Dresses – I turn into a nerdy old lady when it comes to vintage hats and it’s fabulous.
So F*ing Haute: The Premiere Champagne Derelicts Fashion Show – the first ever fashion show by the Champagne Derelicts! You won’t find this one listed on the AFW website.
That’s just a handful of the free events that will be going on this week! Make sure you check out the Austin Fashion Week website for a full schedule of events. They also just released their own iPhone app which is free, so if you are geeking out over Austin Fashion Week like I am, then you should probably download that.
And I might be adding to this list as the days go by and I learn more about the events. Happy Austin Fashion Week!
